Detailed design of water distribution networks with hydraulic calculation can’t be done in Civil 3D. Pressure network functionality in Civil 3D is more focused on designing fittings and appurtenances in 3D.
Urbano Hydra is software for detailed design of water distribution networks. Its hydraulic calculation is based on EPANET, which is the industry standard.
In the latest development of Urbano software, a comprehensive mechanism for two-way communication (including model update) between Urbano and Civil 3D has been created. The conversion enables a seamless “round trip” between Urbano and Civil 3D.
One of the many possible workflows is to initially design the water distribution network in Urbano Hydra, set water demands, perform pipe sizing and hydraulic modeling, and then convert the network with all data to Civil 3D. An important component of the conversion is property set data. Any additional data from Urbano Hydra (i.e. hydraulic data, quantity take off data…) can be selected and transferred to Civil 3D property set data that can be used for annotation and export to BIM file formats.
During the conversion to Civil 3D, Urbano water distribution network is converted to Civil 3D gravity pipe network.
